ABOUT

Hi there, stranger! The name’s Alexandra Herstik and I am a recent graduate of the University of South Carolina (the OTHER USC).  I have a degree in Mass Communication and a minor in Psychology with the added honor of Magna Cum Laude. So clearly, the next logical step is to pursue photography.

Though I went to the University of South Carolina I was born in San Diego, lived in Los Angeles, moved up to Buffalo, New York, then graduated from High School in Atlanta. However, the question of “where are you from?” has grown even more complicated with my parents most recent move back to San Diego, so here is the least complicated answer I have to that question:

“I was born in San Diego, graduated from high school in Atlanta, went to school in South Carolina, and my parents moved back to California.”

Make more sense? Great.

I discovered my love for photography when I graduated from high school.  I am almost completely self-taught and have been helped along the way by some wonderfully talented friends, work associates and mentors.  I freelance and my most current employment was with the University of South Carolina Department of Theatre and Dance as the Lab Theater photographer.  I would work with the directors to photograph promotional material for their shows as well as photograph runs of the productions.  Along with theatre photography I enjoy shooting portraits as well as street (or candid) photography. Additionally, I was the president of Toast! improv, USC’s oldest improv group so I am quick (maybe a little too quick) on my feet.

I currently shoot with a Canon 6d and alternate between a Canon 50mm f1.8, Canon 24-70 f4, and a Canon 85mm f1.8 lens. My photos are mainly shot using natural light but I do have hands-on experience with studio lighting, on-location lighting, and I am very skilled at carrying camera bags and coffee.

Take a look at some of the work I’ve done over the past few years, you’ll enjoy it, you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll probably get a little hungry along the way too.
